Monkey Baby Shower Cake for Sarah and Randy

My husband John's little sister Sarah and her husband Randy are expecting a baby girl later this month and we couldn't be more thrilled for them. We were honored to host their baby shower over the weekend and I was very excited to create this cake in the same theme as their nursery bedding: monkies!

A birthday cake for a 2 year old- another take on fondant Elmo.

Little Ella is turning 2! Her mom wanted to celebrate with a cake that had one of her favorite characters on it: Elmo.

Ella's mom allowed me to let my imagination run wild when it came to the cake design which was a lot of fun. Happy Birthday, Ella. I hope you like your cake!

Very Hungry Caterpillar Cake

This Very Hungry Caterpillar cake was requested for a 2 year old girl's birthday party. All the decorations are made from pre-made fondant. The cake is White Velvet with homemade Classic Buttercream frosting and is covered in homemade marshmallow fondant. The decorations on top of the cake represent all the things the caterpillar ate on Saturday per Eric Carle's book.
This cake was so much fun to create! It was delivered to the little girl's home for her birthday celebration.

Baby Shower Cake and Cupcakes for a Surprise Baby

This baby shower cake and cupcake combination was done for a very special Mommy-to-be, my friend Karen. Karen and her husband Dave are expecting their first child in July and a wonderful group of ladies threw them a beautiful baby shower. The colors and designs for the cake and were inspired by the baby shower invitation which was created by Karen's own Mom!

This cake was my second attempt at covering a cake with fondant and my first attempt at decorating with it. I used the Wilton pre-made fondant in white and added gel food coloring to tint it. The pre-made fondant was surprisingly easy to work with compared to the extremely soft homemade cream cheese fondant I used to cover my daughters 1st birthday smash cake.

Here are Karen's baby shower cupcakes with little fondant babies resting atop a fluffy bed of buttercream icing.

Karen's shower was lovely and I had such a good time working on the cake and cupcakes! I will make another post soon about some tips for working with fondant that I picked up in the process.
