Hello Kitty Birthday Cake and Cupcakes

We've had some more girly birthday cake fun going on at KT Kakes Bakery! My most recent custom cake request was for this Hello Kitty birthday cake and matching cupcakes. The cake and cupcakes were made for a 4 year old little girl's birthday. The cake was yellow cake with vanilla buttercream filling and the cupcakes were chocoalte with vanilla buttercream frosting tinted pink.

The birthday girl made a fun request that the cake be tinted pink!

I had so much fun making this cake and cupcakes! This one did hit a little close to home since my own little girl will turn 4 in just over a month. I hope little Miss H had a great 4th birthay!

Baby Shower Cake and Cupcakes for a Surprise Baby

This baby shower cake and cupcake combination was done for a very special Mommy-to-be, my friend Karen. Karen and her husband Dave are expecting their first child in July and a wonderful group of ladies threw them a beautiful baby shower. The colors and designs for the cake and were inspired by the baby shower invitation which was created by Karen's own Mom!

This cake was my second attempt at covering a cake with fondant and my first attempt at decorating with it. I used the Wilton pre-made fondant in white and added gel food coloring to tint it. The pre-made fondant was surprisingly easy to work with compared to the extremely soft homemade cream cheese fondant I used to cover my daughters 1st birthday smash cake.

Here are Karen's baby shower cupcakes with little fondant babies resting atop a fluffy bed of buttercream icing.

Karen's shower was lovely and I had such a good time working on the cake and cupcakes! I will make another post soon about some tips for working with fondant that I picked up in the process.
